Randolph Tyler Scholl, 37, of Halstad, Minn., died Thursday, July 28, 2005, as a result of injuries suffered in an industrial accident at Alton Agronomy, near Hillsboro, N.D.

Randy was born to Bonnie and Rayland November 19th, 1967 in Enid, OK where he was later baptized.

He grew up with his siblings Jeff and Missy on the family farm near Grandin ND. He greatly enjoyed spending time at the lake, swimming, and skiing the mountains of Colorado with his family. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hendrum, MN where he was confirmed.

He attended school in Halstad, MN and graduated from Norman County West, Halstad in 1986. His love for music and jazz was formed in high school. He studied trombone with Orv Eidem at that time. He joined the 188th Army Band in 1986. Randy spent several years at UND pursuing his interests in aviation, literature, and most of all music. His interest in music developed into an intense love of jazz and the playing of his trombone.

He met his wife, Donna Brookshire, in 1995. Randy and Donna were connected at the soul. They were married July 14, 2001 at Halstad Lutheran Church, Halstad, MN. He then became a member of Halstad Lutheran Church.

Their first child, Henry Randolph Scholl was born on April 22, 2004, Randy’s pride and joy. Randy was anticipating meeting his second child (Peanut) in December.

Randy loved his children dearly. Everything he did was for them. He was working on creating a wonderful home for his wife and children and proud of the work he had accomplished on his home.

Randy loved working outside, took pride in his yard and his home, and watching movies especially the “Star Wars” series. He loved the trombone and jazz. He was Harry Connick Jr.’s number one fan. He was even able to meet several members of Harry Connick Jr’s band. Randy studied trombone briefly under Tom “Bones” Malone of the Blues Brothers and the Late Show with David Letterman.

Randy was proud to be a volunteer for the Halstad Fire Department. He spent many hours helping his friend Kurt Vandermeer with the Norman County West Jazz Band. He was a wonderful mentor to all the budding jazz musicians at the school. He played yearly at the Memorial Day services at Carlson-Hellerud American Legion in Halstad.

Randy was above all a servant to others. In all he did he put the needs of his family, friends and community first from volunteering in the fire department to subbing at the NCW music department, to playing santa in the Grandin Christmas parade. Randy did whatever he could to care for his family & neighbors. He will be dearly missed by all who knew them.

Randy is survived by his wife, Donna (Brookshire) Scholl, his infant son Henry and his unborn child ‘Peanut’, all at home, his mother and father, Rayland and Bonnie, Grandin, ND, his brother Jeff and fiancé Adele Valentino, Whitefish, MT, a sister, Michelle (Todd) Blaser, Fargo, ND, Grandparents Marvin and Ardys Peterson, Bloomington, MN and Grandfather Raymond Scholl, Halstad, MN and several aunts uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his Grandmother, Arlean Scholl in 1998 and his Great Grandmother Minnie Ekbom.

Funeral: 11:00 AM, Tuesday, August 2, 2005, at Halstad Lutheran Church, Halstad, Minnesota.

Visitation: Monday from 5-7 PM at Halstad Lutheran Church and on Tuesday for one hour before the funeral.
