Former State Fire & Rescue Senior Instructor

Cleo L. Keiper dies

Cleo L. Keiper, one of Minnesota's former longtime Senior State Fire Instructor and retired member of the Winona Fire Department, passed away on Sunday February 12, 2006 after sustaining injuries from an motor vehicle accident January 28th 2006.   Cleo was 83.  Cleo's wife Bernice L. “Bea” Keiper of Hastings, a retired dental assistant, died Friday, Dec. 16, 2005, at Augustana Health Care Center. She was 82 years old.

Cleo and Bee family members; survived by son, James L. (Karen); grandchildren James C. (Carla) and Tamera (Paul) Whiteacre; great-grandchildren Mariah, Chelsie, Nathan and Brian; stepgrandchildren Jodi (Joe) Nasers, Todd (Julie) Rockman and Darren (Amy) Rockman; and nine step-great-grandchildren.  Cleo has five brothers, August, Eugene, Vernon, Kenneth and David.

He retired in 1988 after 21 years with the State Fire Training Office.  Cleo had a long history with state fire training and was instrumental in furthering the education of firefighters.

Hastings Fire will provide the ONLY emergency fire apparatus at the funeral. 
Winona Fire will provide the ONLY fire apparatus at the grave site in Winona.
