How to Read an ECG
3-Credit Course
Anoka-Hennepin Technical College’s
EMS Program
would like to present ‘new on-line
curriculum’ that has been developed
by John W. McBride, M.D. Cardiologist and Professor Joe Assouline, PhD.
“How to Read an ECG”,
is a three credit on-line course aimed at the Healthcare Professional. It has been developed for Emergency Medical
Technicians, Nurses, Medical Students, Residents, Physicians and any Healthcare
Professional that would be involved with electrocardiograms. The on-line course can be completed in
approximately 50 hours. Upon
successful completion, the student will receive three college credits and a
certificate of completion.
This
course is a beginning level Web-based computerized interactive course aimed at
the Healthcare Professional. The
course is based on a method fr reading electrocardiograms (ECG) that requires
minimum memorization. The learner will
proceed through the ECG in a logical progression that results in getting the
most diagnostically out of the electrocardiogram with the fewest errors of
omission. The course will consist of
40 electrocardiograms and rhythm strips that will be reviewed at the rate of
approximately three per hour, each by the same logical method. Effective ECG interpretation will allow the
Healthcare Provider to more accurately assess his/her patient and to determine
and institute effective and potentially life-saving treatment
