The
Meany In Our Logo
Red
Maltese Cross
The red Maltese cross is known around the world as a
symbol
of the fire service. It is often seen painted on fire trucks, on the
clothing of firefighters, depicted on firefighters badges, and is quite
often the chosen design of firefighter tattoos.
So why did we choice
this variation to the cross?
Each red panel
represents the seeking of information from all directions. Each panel
is non conforming to traditional shape which represents our rebellious
search for information and the truth.
- The top panel
represents the seeking of information into the future where we have not
yet ventured. We must be forward seeking to be prepared for what awaits
us.
- The bottom panel
represents the rear or the past as we learn from history and those that
have been this way before.
- The side panels
represent the left and right as we continue our search for truth it
reminds us to not veer to far to either side and strive for balance.
- The spaces
between the panels reminds us that we need to allow outside forces to
enter our world from time to time and influence our search for
information.
There is an open book
with the inscription “FENU” in Cyrillic. Above the book, there is one
scarlet flame of a torch. The open book and the torch with one quiet
straight flame are international symbols of education, progress and
enlightenment.
