October 24, 2004                Minnesota  Firefighter Needs Our Help
Please join the Roseville Firefighters to help Mark and his
family, win his battle with cancer.

Dear Concerned Community Member,

Mark Schmaedeke is a husband, father of four, Roseville Firefighter and much
loved friend who has redeveloped Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a cancer that has now
moved into his lungs. In November of 2003, Mark was diagnosed with Hodgkin's
Lymphoma and had a long fight that nearly resulted in remission. Unfortunately just
months after he had begun to feel well again he and his family were greatly
disappointed when they discovered the cancer has redeveloped.  Through his
fight with Lymphoma, members of the Roseville Fire Department helped to care
for Mark and his family, delivering home cooked meals every week, shoveling
snow, mowing grass and cleaning gutters.  Now, that this cancer is more difficult
to treat, extensive chemotherapy treatments and stem cell transplants are sometimes
necessary.

Unfortunately, the costs incurred with this illness are astronomical, as well as many
additional illness related expenses. The Roseville Firefighters are determined to see
our brother firefighter, and friend, survive.  Please join the Roseville Firefighters to
help Mark and his family, win his battle with cancer.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:

To help Mark and his family, the Roseville Firefighters are sponsoring a SILENT

, on November 27th, 2004 starting at 4:00PM until 10:00PM.
We come to you today seeking assistance with our fundraising efforts.  With your
help, we can reach our goals in helping Mark and his family!  We are looking for
items for bid at the upcoming, silent auction. Gift certificates, baskets, prints and
paintings, art, or a generous fiscal donation to purchase silent auction items
(in your name) is greatly appreciated!  Other items, necessary for daily living that
can be donated to Mark’s family are also needed, as Mark is unable to work
during his treatment.  In return, we will publicly recognize your generous giving
at the benefit auction, highlighting your contributions that will directly benefit Mark
as he fights this terrible illness.

Solve your morale problems!
Your firefighters maybe bored because of nothing to do and the public doesn't recognize them as heroes. Get them involved in public education and fire prevention activities where they are helping the public. It won't be long and they will become recognized heroes for saving lives in a proactive way.
Thought For The Week
Is it just me or does anyone else find it absolutely amazing that the U.S. Government can track a cow born in Canada almost three years ago, right to the stall where she sleeps in the state of Washington, and determine exactly what that cow ate. They can also track her calves right to their stalls, and tell you what kind of feed they ate. But they are unable to locate 11 million illegal aliens wandering around in their country, including people that are trying to blow up important structures in the U.S. My solution is to give every person a cow as soon as they enter the country. What do you think?
