MN State Fire Marshal Update – May 21, 2013

1) Luke Stemmer Retirement: St. Louis Park Fire Chief Luke Stemmer is retiring on May 31st. I don’t report on every retirement or promotion because I can’t possibly know about them all, plus a person gets in trouble when he misses someone deserving of recognition. But in this case, I’m going to step out of “normal” and highlight this retirement. Luke Stemmer has given 41 years of his life to public service/public safety. Luke served the communities of Wayzata and St. Louis Park, but also the State of Minnesota.

A north central Minnesota fire grew to an estimated 7,100 acres Wednesday, destroying or damaging dozens of structures, as firefighters struggled to slow it down.

The Green Valley Fire started about 3 p.m. Tuesday and quickly spread in the area north of Menahga due to high winds.

Man found inside burned garage didn't live at home

St. Cloud police are investigating the death of a man found inside a burning garage Tuesday night in St. Cloud.

The man’s identity has not been released, and his body has been sent to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office for identification and a determination of cause of death.

The man found inside the detached garage didn’t live at the house, which was being rented, said Lt. Jeff Oxton. And he isn’t connected to the owners of the house either, Oxton said.
